Beautiful, David. Those Steak Nights! Strip House and Keen's, telling jokes so filthy we had to turn the bust of The Commodore face to the wall. And afterward, smoking one of your little cigars from St Barth outside on the corner as the snow came down. We will miss him.
Duncan and I didn’t connect until the early nineteen eighties so he’d settled down from the storied Twentieth Century Boy. We shared rich life experience for a few decades… sad there’s no more time. Nice piece of work you’ve put down for the old boy. Thanks 🙏🏻
Beautiful, David. I re-read 20th Century Boy this weekend after learning of his passing. I know it’s something I’ll come back to over and over again. He was a special artist and sounds like an even better person. Thanks for sharing.
I gave my partner's grandson a copy of Twentieth-Century Boy when he enrolled in the New York Studio School after high school. I'm beginning to think I should have given him Carnegie's book. Thanks for reminding me to put Bert Jansch back in rotation. Great piece, thanks.
I can't remember where I read this(maybe in his diary book) but his recollection of meeting Lou Reed is the funniest fucking thing I've read and another reason Lou Reed was one of the biggest aholes around. The dude epitomized everything I love. Icon!
With Duncan's upcoming show at Kasmin Gallery, I returned to re-read this lovely tribute, David. What an amazing artist and an even cooler person. His influence will remain steady in my life through his work, writing, and always being so much himself in everything he did—a true inspiration for how to live a life. I deeply wish I could have met him. Thank you again for sharing through your beautiful writing. It's easy to feel how much he meant to you.
I was a friend of Duncan years ago. Spent time in west Cornwall and the upper west side. I was Jim Gardner 's girlfriend. Megan hated Jim. Used to catsit Pansy and Henry (Pansy's first partner). Walks along the Housatonic, where Duncan and I and a few friends scattered Jim's ashes.
This is as lovely a tribute as any I've read.

Thanks Jeff. Appreciate it.
Heartfelt and beautiful.
Thanks Mom.

I don’t know how I missed the news of his death, but finding out from this lovely tribute certainly softened the sting
Beautiful tribute, David. We should be remembered so fondly.
Sorry for your loss. Wonderful anecdotes you have shared. Thank you.

David you are truly a fortunate and blessed man for having known and been friends with Duncan Hannah. A magnificent tribute to his life well lived!

A bit late to this, but one of the finest things you've written, David. Thank you.
