Congratulations on the paperback release. I do like the idea of an upcoming “Coggins Summer Reading List”, if we can all get through the above this Spring.
I just read The Believer (on Kindle, oh well) even though I have not a jot of interest in fly fishing. You’re a great writer. And such a good recommender - recent Wellness Week podcast. « So good you almost can’t even stand it. » Yes ! I was happy to hear you mention Henry James.
I’m with you Anne; I loved The Believer too, yet my interest in fly fishing (or fishing of any sort for that matter) remains as high as Coggins’ interest in bars with TVs… or shorts in the city!
Roger Angell's "Five Seasons" is essential baseball reading. I'd also add Roger Kahn's "The Boys of Summer" -- great one about the Dodgers in their last years before leaving Brooklyn.
Much like Jay above, I bought both The Believer and The Optimist for Coggins reading list while I am in Greece this summer. They will find a home on the bookshelf post-trip next to Men and Style in hard back. Significant possibility of a beer ring on each from poolside use.
Speaking of upcoming book, I saw that John Seabrook, the author of the New Yorker article you mentioned in your previous newsletter, has an upcoming book. It's called The Spinach King and is about his family history. I loved his New Yorker articles about his father's wine collection and Saville Row suits, I have high hope for the book!

I loved Winter Journey. Glad to hear Playworld is recommended. I’m in queue for a copy at the library.

Thanks Stephen!
There are a lot worse first impressions than being seen with a paperback in your back pocket. Congratulations
I realize I can just go back to the posts but is anyone compiling a list of David’s book recs anywhere??
Ha! I doubt anybody is quite that obsessed.
Birmingham native here, David. Go eat at Niki's West while you're in town. Or Gus's hotdogs. Or both.

Finally! Ordered. (And please sign it next time we see each other)
Any other places to purchase signed copies of the paperback edition?
Hi Michael, Three Lives will have it (I will post on Instagram) this week. Thanks!
My brother lives in the West Village and bought a copy for me! Thanks!
