Despite the cartoonish displays of garish polyester and $16M/minute hyper-capitalism, I expect to be berating my television for the better part of the evening. Go Birds!
I had just turned 10 when the Vikings lost their first Super Bowl to the stupid Hank Stram coached KC Chiefs. Their subsequent losses throughout the 1970’s defined my childhood. I’m not sure what I would do, now that I have achieved the grandfatherly age of 65, if they actually won the Lombardi Trophy. To say that it would be disorienting would be the understatement of the season. The Twins winning in ‘87 and ‘91 were joyful experiences but I don’t know if I could handle a Vikings championship trophy ceremony not supervised by Bud Grant.
I felt bad for you during the Vikings game, remembered all your suffering, started hoping they would do something. Then I realized that I had to leave the Vikings to their fate. I carry enough suffering of my own--my teams will not be mentioned by name--but they represent bad choices from childhood and where I grew up. One suffers from the curse of Rocky Colavito, but he just died so maybe he will finally leave us alone.
Fandom is so rife with disappointment. It’s so counterintuitive as to be almost mercurial. Just ask any Dallas Mavericks fan, of which I count myself. I find myself agreeing Tobias, hoping both teams lose.
No David Puddy here, or Shaun from the Dirty 30. We’re not all insane. Check with me later though, if we win it will get wild - a celebratory cigar by the fire on the back porch, just me and the dogs out in the snow. At that point the wife may agree with you!
Only two teams have lost all four Super Bowls they've played in. That's why Vikings and Bills fans are brothers, like Jared and Josh Allen (which I just discovered).
AND they've both lost huge playoff games on BS rules/calls the prompted the NFL to change the rules for the next season (The Vikings lost to Saints in OT on a FG without ever touching the ball). You're welcome everyone!

This could become an effective Pre-game ritual for the Eeyores among us.
We have to stick together!
You think a little snow will stop us from cheering in the streets?
Ha! Definitely not in Philly. I was foolishly hoping in NY.

I just came here to say one thing - Go Birds.
Ha! Shouldn’t you be painting your face right now?

I hope both teams lose.
“ I realize that most of the pieces are about losing or disappointment or the end of a dream that shouldn’t have been dreamt in the first place.”
Are you sure you’re not from Buffalo?…….

They are not brothers
If you’re implying that Vikings fans haven’t suffered as much as Bills fans then you’re sorely mistaken.
However I meant that I like the Bills and root for them. And would hope they root for the Vikings.

I mean that Jared and Josh are not related. I agree that the Vikings and Bills have had similar fates.
