For something to be truly useful it has to be, well, used. That’s obvious enough. But you don’t want Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari that just stays in the garage (until it’s too late). If you have a fancy, heavy fountain pen that’s gorgeous but too precious to take out of the house then essentially it’s a decorative object. Nothing wrong with that. Occasions are worth celebrating and sometimes you take the fancy China out for a holiday spin. Or you have good stationery that you’re not afraid to actually write on. But if the handmade shirt requires so much care then I’d rather have a few I’m not afraid to actually wear everyday.
With that in mind, here are some wonderful objects that want to be used. Some have appeared here on various lists before, but I wanted to have them in one place. I’m including links, but not receiving any commission.
-LAMY Safari Pen. In roller ball or fountain pen (with convenient cartridges) this is simply one of my favorite objects. I keep them in jackets, in apartments, in bags. And yes, there’s a left-handed nib.
-Hasami Ceramic Mug. Satisfying in a fundamental sense. The size, texture and downright decency of these are so great. Black and medium are my preference but you can’t go wrong with anything they make.
