I remember reading Alan Flusser describing the pleasure of finding the perfect knit tie from his presumably vast collection. He said a well-dressed man should have many ties of very similar colors. This was a revelation to me and slightly alarming. I was young and couldn’t imagine owning many knit ties, much less in the same tonal range. I had one knit tie (black) that I was coming to terms with wearing out and about. What innocent days!
