Well it’s time to head out on the road with The Believer. The book comes out on Tuesday, though you might spy it in a store already. You can always order from Big Bezos, but your local should be able to get it within a few days, if you ask them (and if you ask now it will be there the day it comes out).
Here’s the East Coast swing of events (plus a London date,). There will be some others added later on—the best place to find out details is on my Instagram, I’ll always post announcements on my stories. The Filson event is the big public signing in New York at their great store near Union Square.
There will be a few more in Manhattan later in May (and maybe June). You can always order signed copies from Three Lives, my beloved local. They ship (and also wrap beautifully), and you can even have them personalized, I will come in and sign to whoever you ask for. This is that exciting and strange time that any author has—something you’ve been working on in private is about to head out into the world.
Anybody who writes a book about fishing is obligated to say, Well it’s about more than fishing. And if they’re in the publicity department they add, It’s really about life. Now I’m not saying The Believer is about life, but it is about time. How we spend it and balance doing what we love with the other parts of our lives—domestic, professional, cultural. I think if you read the introduction then you’ll see what I mean.
But yes, there’s fishing. Trying to catch brown trout, Atlantic salmon, permit and bonefish in the great waters from Argentina to Norway, Cuba to Spain. If you read this newsletter then hopefully you’ll find something to like there. But don’t take my word for it. Actually one of the chapters will be coming out in a magazine next week, so you can preview it there.
And hopefully you’ll make it to a signing. I hope to see you out there!
