It’s hard to write about writing without being self-conscious. You don’t want to sound like you have the answers to what's a highly unscientific and often mystifying process. But people ask about getting into the game. And when I’m with friends who are writers and editors we talk about how things have changed.
I covered about this two years ago (how old is this newsletter?!) That piece was more about the act of writing itself. The idea was to write a lot, don’t try to prove that you’re smart and try not to get fussy or obsess over style. Still good guidelines.
