This dispatch comes to you from Trevelin, a small Argentinian town near the base of the Andes.
Patagonia has always had a special place in my imagination. I’m not alone. This incredible area represents wildness, beauty and a direct connection to the natural world. As a boy, I was gripped by Bruce Chatwin’s book, the stories of Butch Cassidy, and of course, the legendary rivers.
When I started coming here it turned out to be even better. I wanted Patagonia to be part of my life and, without getting grandiose (too late!), starting to get to know this place is one of the best things that’s ever happened in my life. I wrote about that connection in The Optimist (the delayed re-print of which, incidentally, is finally here, huzzah!).
