The Best Everyday Objects
From a design perspective, very few mass-produced objects endure. There are too many conflicts—evolving demand, a lack of intuitive design, correct pricing—to create an accepted archetype. That’s why Dieter Rams is a genius. We can agree on his design principles but that doesn’t make their execution any easier. That’s why when something is handsome, useful, affordable and lasting it’s a minor miracle. It’s also a reminder than if you find something that’s all of these things then hoard them in case they stop making it.
Here are a few favorite everyday objects that are near and dear to my heart.
